Now that you've completed your design and turned it in for printing, you are ready to set a price for sale in the School Store! First, we'll find the VOLUME of your printed object and figure out how much the filament & printing cost for your item. Then, you will set a sale price for your item in the school store.

Now, go back to Tinkercad and find the 3 dimensions of your shape (length, width, and height). Remember the formula for finding the volume of a cube or a rectangular prism is length x width x height. Even though your shape probably isn't a perfect cube, we'll stick with these measurements to help us figure out how much it costs to print your object. Here is a tutorial video made by Mr. Rogers to help you figure out how to use the ruler tool to get your measurements.
So, using my design as an example, here are my measurements in millimeters and centimeters:
Length = 130 mm 130 divided by 10 = 13 cm Width = 31 mm 31 divided by 10 = 3.1 cm Height = 30 mm 30 divided by 10 = 3 cm To find the volume, I just multiply all 3 numbers together 13 x 3 = 39 39 x 3.1 = 120.9 cubic centimeters NOW, TRY YOURS USING THE HANDY ONLINE CALCULATOR! |

Based on the cost of our filament, it cost about $0.02, or 2 cents, for each cubic centimeter of filament used in printing. So, if I used 50 cubic centimeters, it would cost 50 x 0.02, or $1.00 to print.
Let's calculate my example
Rounding to the nearest whole number, my design is 121 cubic centimeters
121 x 0.02 = $2.41
We want to make at least $0.50 to $1.00 PROFIT per item that we sell, so I need to add that to my price.
$2.41 + $1.00 = $3.41 - that would be a weird price to charge, so lets round up to the nearest $0.50 or whole dollar.
I'm going to set my price at $3.50. Do you think anybody will buy it?
